Program Overview and Objectives:

The program is designed for all physician specialties, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers and other allied health professionals. No pre-requisites are required. Upon completion of this program participants should be able to:


Module I – Palliative Care
- Define Palliative Care.
- Describe three disease trajectories.
- List the components of a thorough pain assessment.
- Distinguish between nociceptive and neuropathic pain.

Module II – Pain Management
- Describe the basic principles of pain management.
- Distinguish between addiction, tolerance, and dependence.
- Distinguish the difference between opioid side effects and allergy.
- Calculate an opioid conversion.

Module III – Decision Making

- Define comprehensive Advance Care Planning.
- Describe the assessment of decision-making capacity. Module IV – POST Form
- Develop an approach to using the POST form in his/her practice.
