Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) – Pharmacy Residency


Charleston Area Medical Center is an ASHP accredited pharmacy residency program. The focus of this residency is to provide residents with an extensive range of pharmacy practice experiences tailored to meet individual needs and interests. This is accomplished through clinical and non-clinical rotations of four to six weeks in length.

Mission Statement

Pharmacists completing the PGY1 residency program at CAMC will be confident, independent practitioners with the ability to function as competent members of multidisciplinary teams. They will be capable of providing direct patient care to a diverse group of patients and educating healthcare professionals and students on pharmaceutical care issues.

  • Critical care (trauma, surgical, medical)
  • Drug information
  • Infectious diseases
  • Internal medicine

Elective rotations

  • Family medicine
  • Geriatrics
  • Oncology
  • Poison control
  • Trauma step-down
  • Additional opportunities may be arranged

Longitudinal experiences

  • Residency research project
  • Medication use evaluation
  • Journal club
  • Staffing inpatient pharmacy
    (Monday through Thursday 4 to 9 pm rotated between residents)
  • Clinical on-call services
  • Health Right Clinic

Incentives

  • Stipend $35,000 to $40,000 annually
