Charleston Area Medical Center

Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) is a non-profit, 893-bed, regional referral center located in the beautiful capital city of Charleston, West Virginia. CAMC is home to one of the top 10 heart programs in the United States; one of two-kidney transplant centers in the state; one of the nation’s busiest Level I Trauma Centers; and the state’s only Level III neonatal intensive care unit.

Charleston Area Medical Center provides comprehensive 24-hour pharmacy services to the residents of Charleston and the surrounding communities of southern West Virginia. Pharmacy services include an array of clinical and centralized distributive services. Direct patient care is provided by clinical specialists, clinical staff pharmacists, and PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents. Administrative, drug information, and clinical services are available 24 hours a day through departmental on-call programs.

Our visionary model for pharmacy practice mirrors several goals set forth in the ASHP 2015 Initiative, including the implementation of collaborative practice agreements. With the goal of providing optimal pharmaceutical care to our patients, pharmacy services at CAMC are currently transitioning to more decentralized, patient-oriented, and evidence driven practice. Clinical staff pharmacists are moving to patient care floors, giving pharmacists the opportunity to have direct contact with patients and other healthcare providers. From our Level I Trauma Center to our nationally recognized Ryan White HIV Clinic, the clinical pharmacy specialists at CAMC provide direct patient care as integral members of multidisciplinary teams.
