Clinical Services

CAMC provides clinical rotation opportunities for several medical residency programs. These programs do not include an anesthesia residency. The entire wealth and range of learning opportunities of anesthetics performed at CAMC are available exclusively for nurse anesthesia students.

Charleston Area Medical Center is a non-profit, 919-bed, regional referral center. CAMC is home to one of the top 10 heart programs in the United States; one of two kidney transplant centers in the state; and one of the nation's busiest Level I Trauma Centers. Students rotate to all three hospitals and to the Surgicare outpatient facility. Students receive all clinical experience at CAMC. They do not have to travel to other cities or other hospitals to achieve their clinical experience.

Hospitals
The Charleston Area Medical Center is a tertiary care and referral center composed of three hospitals. Memorial, General, Women's & Children's, and Surgicare have a combined total of 34 operating rooms, with more currently under construction.

The General hospital campus houses the Level I trauma center, orthopedic and neurology units, and is active in renal transplantation. CAMC's neurosurgery program was recently rated among the top 35 in the nation by US News and World Report. General division is approximately 1 mile from the Education Office.

The Memorial hospital campus houses the cardiovascular unit, which ranks among the top ten heart surgery centers in U.S.
Memorial hospital is connected to the Robert C. Byrd Building, which houses the School of Nurse Anesthesia, it's classroom and Education office.

Women and Children's hospital specializes in obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics.  It is home to the region's largest and busiest Level III neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric intensive care unit.  W&C is approximately 2 miles from the Education Office.

Surgicare has 4 ORs for outpatient surgery. Surgicare is located on the Memorial hospital campus adjacent to the anesthesia Education Office.
